Hard Nosed Vintage Football Poster

There comes a time in history when everything old becomes new again and that saying holds true with vintage football posters. When I saw vintage football poster I am referring not to the old football posters or the antique football prints from 70 or 80 years ago. I am referring to the reissue of the old football poster that allow the young football fans of today to see what things were like when the National Football League was growing up. It surprises me each time that I see a movie made recently and on the kid’s wall in that movie is an old poster of Red Grange or Johnny Unitas hanging proudly over his bed. I always assume that if it has reached Hollywood then it has been going on for some time now and indeed it has.

The fascination with vintage football posters does not stop at old NFL players and posters. One of the most popular vintage football posters of all time is that of John Heisman. John Heisman was the man that the Heisman Trophy was modeled after and it is the ultimate goal of all college football players to win the Heisman Trophy. If you have ever been to the home of a young football player and you see a large poster of a black and white picture of what looks like a hard nosed old man standing in a black long sleeve shirt and football pants just staring back at you then that would be a good time to introduce yourself to John Heisman. It isn’t a picture of the famous Heisman Trophy but rather just a picture of John Heisman standing there staring right back at you. It isn’t flashy, it isn’t showbiz at all, but nothing says football more than that vintage football poster and it is very popular.

Hard Nosed Vintage Football Poster

The picture of the random old time football player just standing there staring at the camera with dirt on his face, his old time football sweater tucked into his pants, and his leather helmet with no face guard sitting on his head is also a very popular vintage football poster. There is nothing fancy about it and many kids put that poster right next to their Reggie Bush or Peyton Manning posters on their wall. There is just something about those old antique football posters that says football better than anything put out today and there is nothing that displays the hard nosed attitude that is making a big time comeback in football better than a vintage poster of one of the original players that helped mold the game into what it is today.

Football will always be a game of violence and contact but there is something about the way those old time players played the game that still appeals to the players today. Maybe it is the way they would always run together as one unit to roll over the opposition, or maybe it was the way they played the game with relatively little equipment compared to what they have today, or maybe it is just the way they those old time players played the game because they loved it. A little bit of passion goes a long way in football.
