Vintage USSR Posters And Their Appeal
Since the late sixteenth century, folk art has been popular in the Russian country. Old soviet prints whether they be of pictures, movies, or advertisements still make for a very exciting day at the antique mall. When a collector finds that special one that he has bee looking for a good long while, it makes it all worth it in the end. These collectors will either frame the vintage Russian posters or put the in plastic sheets to save their life expectancy. Old USSR prints can be very collectible, it just depends on what prints you have and what shape they are in. A vintage Soviet poster that is like new or brand new can bring a hefty price, where one that is torn or bent in places may not be worth anything at all.
Old Russia prints or posters can have graphics, symbols, or pictures on them. Their art was influenced by Italy and Germany in the early 1500's. These were mainly collected by the middle and lower classes. Some of these people held onto a lot of the original artwork and posters and they are now worth a lot of money. Dmitrii Rovinskii was one of the best known with his vintage USSR poster of Christ, Ivan the Terrible, and Anastasia. He also created some posters with humor and satire as well as folktales and different virtues.
Some of these were also meant to satire Napoleon back when he was in power. They would use humor and jokes to explain away his reign in France. This was to get back the Russian spirit after Napoleon went and destroyed most of he Russian army. Napoleon and his army were drawn to be weak and helpless. This was to get the morale of the Russian people high again.
Most of the vintage USSR posters are drawn with some meaning behind them. They show the people standing ready to fight whatever is coming their way. The people in them are drawn as strong individuals that could handle themselves well in a scuffle. Some also show flags waving or airplanes flying in the skies. There were also a great many pictures and artwork done portraying the Nuremberg trials.
The likenesses of Lenin, Stalin, and other Russian leaders wee also subjects for these posters and art prints. They show them at their greatest moments standing and speaking to the crowds. These were very collectible. The idea behind these being that in unity they would find their greatest strengths. They could then come together as a country and fight strong and win the battle. All of the posters always tried to show their unity whether it be with a spider with five legs on a poster or a picture of Lenin standing at the capitol. They bring forth the early goals of the Russian to people to stay true to themselves and each other. They are a strong surviving people with a great history to be outlined in artwork and posters.
